ALL HALLOWS EVE

Happy Halloween everyone!!!

We had a little Halloween get-together...

just a couple of girls
and a couple of parents
(the boys were doing their own boy things but did carve pumpkins)

We intended to play some games, and be creepy...

We had some creepiness...
& lots of laughs....
My friend Lydia arrived as
'A tacky lady'

She had sooo many different things on all at once...
A sequin dress (she rocked it!)
a feather boa, leggings, a beret and a pink braided clip in hairpiece
gnarly faux teeth, a stack of bracelets & humongo earrings.
All over her back & arms
she had faux tattoos .... Wow!!!
She arrived with a strange mountain man in big hair and glasses,
a bunny
& her wee little pirate-
Look at that innocent sweet little face...
(let me tell you, that pirate is good....
she managed to swipe a piece of the boys pizza when they weren't looking and then dance the whole way home while enjoying it!! Too cute!!!)

My daughter went as her favorite character this year-
Tamina from the Prince of Persia

I wore a pale blue princess gown with a black cape...
but couldn't find my crown...

...maybe the pirate stole it!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!

FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY No. 6 & PLACIDO DOMINGO

Welcome to Feathered Nest Friday no.6!!

I spent several hours last night lost in a world from long ago ..
A tale of two cousins....one whom deeply loved the other.
A poet, a dashing soldier & a beautiful woman.
The poet dressed in a large feathered hat so as to hide the glaring ugliness he saw on his face...
which he felt made him unlovable to any woman, but especially the one who captured his heart.

Cyrano de Bergerac

The story was touching, the music was beautiful,
& the performance was amazing !
The best part-
Cyrano was played by none other than
Placido Domingo!!
One of the renowned 3 Tenors!
Magnificent!
It was absolutely incredible to experience seeing a true legend in Opera
singing and performing right before us!
Such a wonderful evening at the San Francisco Opera!

I know Opera is not for everyone...
They say that opera is something you either love or you hate...
you are passionate in how you feel either way...
I just Love it!

I wore this dress- #1 for those of you who were voting!

(But have to admit, I brought along another one in case I changed my mind!)
I changed about 5 minutes later but Honey was halfway to the car by then...
What?! Put a suit on and be done?
Men...

We are taking my daughter & sister with us to Madama Butterfly in a couple of weeks- one of my absolute favorites!
I'll let you know if they enjoy it
or...
gasp!... hate it!

I know this post has nothing to do with decorating or feathering my nest today!!!
Sorry!

PINK PEARLS & A LITTLE BLACK DRESS

The little black dress...
Classic. Elegant. Gorgeous.
I have about 5 or 6 little black dresses...
I always think they are so fabulous, until I have to pick one to wear!
Then,
they are too tight in the all the wrong places-
or too tight in all the right places and it's not appropriate!
too short,
too long,
too formal,
too informal...
you get the idea...

I have managed to narrow it down to 3 for tonight.

#1
#2
#3

I'll be adding in some classic black suede heels...

& a triple strand of pink pearls...

More on this soon... It is in San Francisco... But it's nothing to do with the World Series... It's a bit more formal!

For now-
Get your decorating, inspirations, flea finds, etc... post ready or dig em out of your past posts!!
FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY
coming your way!!
Linky will be up tomorrow evening!
Hope to see you there!!!

One more thing! I need some great Halloween party games and food ideas for Saturdays party- if anyone has any ideas please let me know!! Thanks!

SHABBY FRENCH INSPIRATION

This little chair speaks perfect french vintage to me...
The old faded floral fabric... distressed wood frame... carved roses & details...

I love this chair.
With this shabby french fabric.

A creamy tea stained background

Faded pink roses
&
soft baby blue ribbons

Dainty rose garland swags, gorgeous baby roses wreath & delightful french scrolls.

I bought all they had- about 5 yards- probably 4 years ago...
Not sure what I would do with it at the time
but knew that I loved the pattern and french antique feel.

It has been folded in an armoire and I have thought about using it several times...
but didn't want to cut it. Crazy, huh?
Has anyone ever felt like that?

This is the before...my $20.00 thrift store chair
Remember all those tacks?

yeah... me too.
Next time I see an upholstered piece with tacks like that...
I might have to think twice.

I thought the beautiful french vintagey fabric would be gorgeous on this chair....
but, you know...
then I would have to actually cut it to use it...

So... I upholstered the chair in a beautiful bold yellow floral...

Half way through...I did not love it...

I thought I would at least give it a few days to see if all of a sudden 'love' popped out at me.

Uh...didn't happen.

So this weekend...

I pulled out my frenchy fabric,
draped it over my chair... and cut it.
YIKES!!
You know I measured about 50 times, to make sure I was using the most of each piece so I could save as much as possible...
I ironed as many wrinkles out as I could and started upholstering...

I got the back done first...

Oooh La La!!!

Loved it immediately and so continued on with the seat.

Though, originally, I was thinking something bold and maybe bright-
a check, a bold floral or an elegant damask...

They just weren't working for me.

I decided I really wanted a french ticking- with soft faded color and dainty flowers-
but couldn't find any that I adored that worked with the chair.

But, I love this fabric for some of those same qualities.

The faded creamy white linen &
old worn colors

Elegant vines & dainty flowers

Originally I was planning to paint the chair and go with something really shabby inspired.

But the dark frame is perfectly distressed now-
thanks to the rigamarole we had getting the tacks out!

Dark wood paired with new vintagey fabric...

It's shabby french love!

FEATHERED NEST FRIDAY No. 5 & TEA PARTY

Behind our house, we have a wooded area filled with blackberry bushes, oak & cedar trees and lots of little creatures.
There are little clearings here and there, and a few paths that meander through the bushes and trees
and lead further into the woods.
You never know just what you may find when you venture into the forest...

In the midst of one of those paths, there was a little tea party taking place-
graciously hosted by Miss Bella.

A dainty table & two itsy bitsy chairs...

a french ticking quilt ~ soft blue stripes, tiny little flowers & scalloped edge- so charming!

A chocolate pot & two wee cups & saucers

A diminutive bird feeder held a few starfish and a sweet lavender bouquet.

A little bowl of fresh picked blackberries...yum!

& a basket of harvest apples amongst the fall leaves.

Miss Bella set a very pretty table for her two darling little friends
who were stopping by for a nibble and spot of tea.

Is that them coming now?

They just love a good party & wore their prettiest ribbon attire to the affaire!

Such a lovely day for a tea!

You just never know what you will find if you venture into the forest!

Exhausted after hosting such a sweet affaire,
Miss Bella took a little nap on one of the new pillows she has decided are hers.

Phew!
