Clearance Drawer Hardware

Don't you love it when you find something you know you need for a project
  AND
you find it on clearance?

As you know we have been working on several projects out in the little cottage
and I just shared a peek at the new vintage inspired kitchen yesterday.

I have a tendency to look for clearance no matter what store I am shopping at.
I don't usually follow the in the moment trends so I can pick up pieces that I like when they are no longer
as 'hot' as they were a few months ago or find stuff that I just plain like at an awesome price.
So I have been picking up bits and pieces here and there for the little cottage over the past few months
 (ahem... okay years maybe)
knowing that I would use them at some point.

Vintage Inspired Guest Cottage Kitchen

We have been busy working on a few things over here recently.

There have been several pretty big projects that have been taking
up quite a bit of time.
but they are finally getting close to being wrapped up
and so I'm sharing one of those projects today...

Our 'little cottage' kitchen
The guest cottage was built probably back in the 1940's sometime.
An old building on our property~ it has knotty pine walls and ceiling
and concrete floors.
When we bought our house we were so excited to have a separate house on the property to fix up as well.
This part of the cottage was converted from a garage to living space sometime
since the 1940's and we have been working on giving it a new finished look.
It is an amazing space with tall peaked ceilings and original old exposed beams

Summer Brunch Inspirations

Pink roses and burlap~ such a favorite combination of mine and
I love to put them together on a table for dining outdoors
along with a few other pieces that I always like to bring in.

Over at Sears.com they have created a blog all about favorite outdoor styles
and ideas for putting together pieces to create something that is
perfect for you, your home and your lifestyle.
The Sears designers  take turns sharing about their favorite design pieces
and the elements that you can find at Sears
on their Outdoor Style blog.

I was thrilled when they asked if I would be a guest blogger for several posts
about some ideas for Outdoor Style with a French Country Cottage touch.
:)
So today over on their blog~ I am sharing a little post about

Here's a little peek:

I hope you will click over and take a peek.
Happy Tuesday!

Just A Few Random Chairs

I worked on a sort of random project the other day.

I say 'random' because it involved pieces that I 'randomly' found at
the Re-Store and decided to drag home with me.
Pieces that you can find all over the place for a pretty good price
and easily clean up or paint ...

It's the first week of school over here!
My middle guy and youngest both started HS yesterday~
Cullan is a senior and Ansley a freshman.
Unbelievable. I don't know how they could be so big already!
So we are getting back into the swing of the school routine and schedules over here
and wrapping up about 500 projects all at the same time and I am scheduling this post to publish on time hopefully...
Yes, I think I might need A LOT more coffee!
 :)

Here's what I shared this week~

Industrial Chic

Do you love  Industrial Chic pieces?
Old metal buckets and bins, vintage lockers and other rusty crusty treasures

Old chippy metal chairs, tables with legs made from pipes, etc.?

I have been finding it hard to resist little metal treasures lately.
I brought a set of four vintage lockers home with me from my grandfathers shed not long ago...
not sure yet where they will go- I just know I love them.

I recently also picked up a couple more industrial inspired items at the Re-Store...
totally not my usual style but I am drawn to that crusty metal look it seems.
I love a bit of industrial mixed in with more elegant.
It just fits my design style I guess- though I don't have too  much industrial going on yet.

In my kitchen-
I have a special piece that brings in that touch of industrial-
 my grandfathers workshop stool.

He had this old painted metal stool in his wood workshop off the garage for as long as I can remember.
I love the crusty finish and most of all the memories that it has.
I tossed the burlap cover over the seat for a little bit more neutral tone-
but love the cracked leather seat as well.

Here are some of my favorite industrial chic pins from the past week or so-
you can find more on Pinterest in my Industrial Chic Board

It's the first day of high school for my daughter
and first day of SENIOR year for my middle guy today!
Cannot believe it!

The heat is on hold for a moment here... it almost looks like rain this morning- which is fantastic
and is a welcome break from the 100 degree weather!

Working on finishing up those scores from the re-store and will be sharing soon~

See you this afternoon for Feathered Nest Friday!!

A Little S & P Shaker Charm

How could something so small
be filled with so much charm?

Dainty
creamy white

So perfect for a few sprigs of stock or
 a petite bunch of roses

These little vases aren't really vases though

They were meant to hold something more along the lines of salt and pepper and herbs and spices
I found 3 of them together at the thrift store the other day
and they came home with me

I searched the shelves over at the thrift store for a few more figuring the 4th one
should be there somewhere but didn't find any

Then...
I popped into the $ store and I found these.

They are just about the same size.
Glass.
Cute.
They would work.

I am not a huge crafty person- I sew, I build, but craft not as much but this was so simple.

Just a little white paint later...
&
a couple sweet little vases appeared.

Perfect for grouping together
or lining up along a shelf

A little bit vintage,
a little bit new
and
a little bit of romantic charm mixed in.
Kind of random...but I'm loving them.

Hot hot hot here and more of the same all week
it is really starting to take it's toll on the lawn and plants.
These beautiful roses were purchased on Friday evening and I photographed them on Sunday
and they were already starting to dry and wilt
 :(

beautiful nonetheless... but thinking maybe I need to put some ice cubes
in the water for the next bunch.

(yes, that is a Christmas ornament ~ I'm not rushing the season~
sometimes I keep a few out all year long to enjoy!)
:)

Happy Monday!!

Burlap Table Runner

I think I have been having a wee bit of a love affair
 with jute webbing and burlap.

Burlap & webbing just draw me in.
Their natural color. Their texture and charm.

I love the simple stripes on the webbing too.

Those Union Jack pillows I made the other day are new favorites
and while I was working on those, I thought about a simple table runner made from the same
material and started sewing.

This runner could not be more simple to make.
I started with burlap and jute webbing that I found at Burlap Fabric
I cut a wide strip of burlap and hemmed it along each edge
and then sewed a strip of jute webbing down the center.

So simple.

I decided to use this as a runner in a different direction for this table~
Instead of the usual placement of the length of the table~ this goes across the width.
I think 6  or 8 chairs with the  runners across as place mats for them would be so charming.

I found these darling boxwoods on sale at Lowes and brought a couple home
to place in galvanized pots and also picked a few more up for the yard.
I absolutely love boxwood and lavender in the garden.

Can you believe that school starts here on Wednesday?
WAY too early this year. My oldest son graduated high school a couple years ago but this year
I have a Senior and a Freshman at HS. Unbelievable.
Yes, that's my baby-baby who is a freshman. *sigh*
Cullan (Senior this year) has been fantastic at helping my daughter & her friend Leila  find their
classes ahead of time and learn the school layout a bit
The girls are going from a very close knit small school that had just
1 class of 30 kids per grade all the way from K-8th to a high school that has over 3000 students.
That's a big change- but my boys enjoyed the larger environment
and I'm hoping that my daughter does too.

I stared at that project we have been working on last night
and got so excited about how it is coming together.
It's nearly wrapped up but the 100 degree weather doesn't help much ~
it really zaps the energy right out of you and makes you want to do nothing at all.
But...
nonetheless it is almost ready to share.
Whoo Whoo!

Then...
I think I am going to the beach!
;)
lol!
