About Me

French Country Cottage
is my blog inspired by my own little
 French Country Cottage
It was an old neglected vacation house when we found it
and it's taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make it a welcoming, warm home

My style is a  little French Country, a little shabby and romantic and a little cottage

I don't follow all those decorating rules- except for the one about decorating with what I love.
I think if you walk into a room and see a room filled with treasures, memories, things you love
and it  makes you happy
 it's perfect.

I love gilding on anything and everything
antiques and vintage
french furniture, mirrors and rugs
old brassy golds,
dainty lines in furniture,
old original floral painted pieces,
rich dark wood pieces with patina
old chipping paint and weathered wood.
That delightful mix of rustic and elegant in a room is perfection to me.

Setting a table with vintage china and elegant stemware and an abundance
of beautiful blooms is a favorite thing to do
and especially if it's on an old farm table in the middle of the woods.
I love creating that ambiance for guests and inviting the conversations and laughs
to linger a bit longer

I have been working with brands for 2.5 years now
such as Lowes  and HomeGoods as well as  Joss and Main
Mikasa, Soft Surroundings, Sears/Kmart and several others

This Summer- I was honored to work with GMC and Habitat for Humanity
traveling the Worlds Longest Yard Sale to find furniture and necessities to furnish a
home for a special Habitat family in Georgia.
It was truly a blessing to be a part of such an incredible team
doing something so wonderful for the family.
Yes, there were lots of tears all the way around
but they were all happy tears.

In addition to blogging

I also work  freelance as a stylist and photographer
with magazines in America and Europe.
I am honored to have been featured and to also have had my work and photography
gracing the covers of several publications.

I am also working on finishing up my first book
on French Cottage design, diy and lifestyle.

I am happy to provide references to
posts, brands, highlights, press and more
 upon request.

I just returned from an incredible opportunity to live/work in Angers, France, for 6 months--it was a dream come true that I was able to share w/ my twin daughters. Your blog inspires me to recreate a little bit of France here in the Lone Star State :)

  18. May I just say, how beautiful and creative your style is, and how lovely your home. It is absolutely inspired. I love everything about it, and I love the warmth that emanates from everything you have done in your home.

You, and a few other very talented people that I am following online, are inspiring me to bring this magic into my home too... It took a while to convince my husband, but now I can move forward and I will not look back :)

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this beauty and creativity with the world, and that I have become your newest fan :)

Looking forward to seeing more of your magic.

    With kindest regards,
    Laura

  19. Hi Courtney!!
For years I always tried to explain what kind of decoration I loved. People always said it was Country. So for years I bought anything to do with country decorating, but, never really felt that that is what I was all about.

Until recently, meaning in the last few years, I have found that it was always "Cottage" designs that I love. Especially after going through a life changing experience, I feel I need to try to rebuild my life and Courtney you and your beautiful ideas are helping. The color pink has always been a calming color and I love how you use it. The roses are beautiful!!

So, thank you for your beautiful pictures and stories (Love the one about the Settee and your daughter is so funny).
